As KCSB celebrates 115 years as a community bank, Mary Marshall is celebrating her 10-year-anniversary with the Bank. Mary joined KCSB in 2013 as Assistant Vice President, Branch Officer in the Vicksburg Branch Office. In 2016, she was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Branch Administrator and in 2022 she was promoted to her current position as Assistant Vice President of Human Resources and Marketing.

Wearing many hats in her career with KCSB, as community bankers do, Mary was also a consumer and commercial lender, focused on helping the individuals, families and businesses in the communities KCSB serves with their deposit and lending strategies. She has provided coaching in the Bank to strengthen cohesion and enrichment, product delivery, customer service and personal development. Before joining KCSB, Marshall was in branch management for 1st National Bank of Three Rivers, Standard Federal Bank and Farmers State Bank.

Today, with 37 years in banking, Mary reflects on the significant changes she has seen in her banking career. “I began my banking career in 1986 when mortgage rates were around 10.50% and savings rates were 5.00%. The industry had much less government regulations. There was no internet, no ATMs, no debit cards, and very limited direct deposit.”

Mary recalls the differences in branch offices today, “Back in the 80s, our Tellers used teller machines to process transactions which were basically glorified calculators. There weren’t computers at each teller station. Tellers had to look on a computer printout to see what the balance of an account was from the previous night. There was no way to see transactions on an account throughout the day. The lines were long on payday as most did not have direct deposit. No debit cards meant everyone paid with cash, check or with a credit card. No internet meant no online banking, no mobile banking, no online bill pay, no mobile deposit and no balancing your account until the statement was mailed to you!”

Making her career as a community banker, it’s easy to see why Mary has been so successful. Her focus is connecting with others – her community and her customers.

“As we celebrate our 115th Anniversary, we want people to know KCSB is here to help our communities thrive. We offer personal, commercial and mortgage lending. We have a slogan that says, ‘we’re local, friendly and reliable.’ It’s so true — we live in the communities we serve and we volunteer and give back to our communities.”

Mary went on to list the ways KCSB helps customers reach their financial goals.

  • 1st time home buyer
  • Building your own home
  • Starting or expanding your business
  • Purchasing a vehicle
  • Small loan to help with an emergency
  • Saving for the future

  • And the list goes on…
