Meet Stephanie Chapin, Loan Clerk for Kalamazoo County State Bank (KCSB). As KCSB celebrates 115 years as the community bank, Stephanie reflects on her 45th Anniversary with the Bank.

“I began my career with KCSB in Bookkeeping in 1977 while I was a Senior in High School. In July of 1978, I started working full time in Bookkeeping. I then moved into the Computer Department. I have always enjoyed working with numbers and balancing accounts, so I continued to help in Bookkeeping while continuing to work in the Computer Department.”

Stephanie later followed in her Mom’s steps and became a Loan Clerk. This was definitely a family affair as Stephanie took over her Mom’s job. “My Mom worked in the Loan Department and before she retired, she trained me for her job where I have continued to work. I have also worked as a Payroll Clerk while working in the Loan Department. Now I only work in the Loan Department.

As a KCSB Loan Clerk, Stephanie is responsible for preparing documents for the Business and Consumer Lenders, processing loans and verifying that documents have been prepared correctly. “I especially enjoy working on Commercial and Agricultural Mortgages.”

When asked about some of the significant changes she has seen in banking throughout her career at KCSB, Stephanie says, “I have been here for 45 years and have seen a lot of changes in banking. It has been interesting to see computers progress over the time I have been here. It just amazes me what we can offer. Today, we offer Online Banking, Mobile Banking and Mobile Deposit, ATM/Debit Cards and Zelle®… just to name a few. I also see there are a lot more regulations to protect our customers.”

When not in the office, Stephanie enjoys being outdoors in the fresh air, reading and taking care of her dog and two cats. Stephanie concludes, “KCSB is an amazing place to work. We listen to our customers, care about them and we get to know them.”

Congratulations Stephanie!
